Bidhannagar Mayor Krishna Chakraborty resigns, another massive blow to TMC
Kolkata’s Orange Line metro project, connecting New Garia to the airport, has once again been stalled due to persistent traffic congestion in Chingrighata. The area, a known traffic hotspot during peak office hours, is creating repeated disruptions in the metro construction schedule.
This isn’t a new problem. Officials say traffic hurdles have already pushed the project behind by nearly two years. Despite previous efforts to ease vehicular flow, no concrete traffic management plan has worked well enough to allow uninterrupted construction.
Now, the Calcutta High Court has taken serious note of the situation. Slamming the lack of coordination, the court has directed both the West Bengal government and metro rail authorities to jointly present a workable traffic solution within 10 days. The bench warned that further delay will not be tolerated.
The Orange Line, once complete, is expected to significantly ease travel between southern Kolkata and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport.
